Event Description
Holly Hendry at De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea, from 28th May-30th August 2021 borders and edges, ruptures, wholes and holes are the subject of Holly Hendry’s major new outdoor commission and solo exhibition this summer.
Emphasising the Pavilion’s proximity to the coastline and its resulting vulnerability, Hendry visualises the building as a body being eaten, becoming porous and holey before eventually dissolving into its surroundings. She imagines the Ground floor gallery as a reconfigured part of the Pavilion’s anatomy, a leaky vessel whose internal organs are caught in a loop of consumption and digestion.
An outdoor commission, Invertebrate, will thread through the De La Warr Pavilion’s lawns and roof. It is a collaboration with England’s Creative Coast: a landmark series of seven outdoor art commissions that celebrates and connects the creative coastlines of East Sussex, Kent and Essex under the title Waterfronts.
