This festive season Rye Jazz Festival presents a truly unique and intimate solo concert with Brit Award and Ivor Novello Award – winning singer and song writer KT Tunstall prior to her 2019 spring UK tour on Saturday 15th December at the stunning setting of St Mary’s Church, Rye.
This is an exceptional opportunity to hear and experience one of the most acclaimed, distinctive and respected British singer song writers who has sold over 7 million albums in her career to date.
KT has recently released the lead single The River, taken from her 6th studio album WAX, which was released on October 5th on Virgin Records and brings the same energy and powerful voice that scored her a pair of top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hits more than a decade ago: “Black Horse & The Cherry Tree” in 2006 and “Suddenly I See” in 2007. “The River” builds up with rocking, rhythmic guitar textures and a catchy chorus that is signature of her work.
Following the success of 2016’s Top 10 album KIN, forthcoming album WAX is the 2nd of a trilogy which explores themes of spirit, body, and mind. This album focuses on the body, and our complex relationships with physicality. WAX was entirely self/co-written and is produced by Nick McCarthy, founding member of multimillion selling band Franz Ferdinand, with co-production from duo MyRiot (London Grammar, Birdy). The album also features co-writing contributions from her frequent creative collaborator Martin Terefe and Kings Of Leon and producer/ mentor Angelo Petraglia. Drumming duties from seasoned LA-based musician Denny Weston Jnr, and guitar from longstanding friend and collaborator Charlotte Hatherley amongst others, with KT on guitar, synths and vocals throughout.
Recently KT has been awarded the Inspirational Artist gong at the Women In Music Awards. She was chosen as the first ever female Grand Marshal (following the likes of Sir Sean Connery) to lead April’s annual New York Tartan Week parade. In May she and Mike McCready, of legendary multimillion selling Pearl Jam, also released a cover of Tom Petty’s huge hit single I Won’t Back Down with proceeds going to Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy Foundation. KT has spent the summer touring worldwide with superb artists including, The Pretenders, Simple Minds and Barenaked Ladies.
Supporting KT Tunstall on the evening will be festival favourite Joe Corbin. He’ll be armed with his beaten up Fender Stratocaster, stomping on the stage with a boot-clad foot, singing the blues. A man of passion, he bears all when he plays and seems to be at home on any stage including supporting Wilco Johnson back in 2015 and many festival appearances since. Joe will perform from 8pm with KT following after a short interval.
The festival acknowledges and extends its gratitude to Future Climate Info, CLS Property Insight and StoneRock Dental Care for kindly partnering the KT Tunstall concert.
