Event Description

This study day will give you a fascinating insight into the world of bird song. It will be taking place at Kent’s largest coastal reserve, the beautiful Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve where you will learn to identify birds by their songs and calls.

All species of bird produce unique vocalisations. This study day will provide participants with a better understanding of how to identify birds by their songs and calls. There will be a focus on wading and coastal birds along with song birds utilising the coastal scrub and dune meadows of Pegwell Bay. We will learn about the different meanings behind bird songs and calls and why birds sing more at certain times of the day or year. We will listen to the contrasts in variety of calls made by different bird species and get experience in using bird sounds to find a identify species.
