Event Description
Brookwood Military Cemetery is the largest Commonwealth War Graves Commission site in the United Kingdom, covering approximately 37 acres. Brookwood Military Cemetery contains 1,601 Commonwealth burials of the First World War and 3,476 from the Second World War. In addition to the Commonwealth plots, the cemetery also contains French, Polish, Czechoslovakian, Belgian and Italian sections, and a number of war graves of other nationalities all cared for by the Commission.
During the Walking Tour you will visit war graves from both World Wars and learn about the history of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. You will also find out about some of the casualties that are commemorated here.
There are NO toilet facilities available at Brookwood.
The starting point for the tour is the memorials opposite the Canadian Records building. Please come dressed for the weather and in a suitable walking shoe. The numbers on the tour will be limited to abide by Government restrictions and social distancing rules must be followed.
The maximum is 10 people per time slot (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) but you will be split into two groups of 5 to abide by Government guidelines. Please be aware if you are a couple, you may be in separate groups.
If coming by vehicle please park outside the Canadian Records Building. There is a direct train service from Waterloo to Brookwood Station from which there is an entrance to the cemetery. The postcode is GU24 0JB. Brookwood Military Cemetery is not to be confused with Brookwood Cemetery. Google Maps provides the most accurate directions to the site.
