Event Description
Gary Fletcher is a founder and ever present member of The Blues Band with Paul Jones, Tom McGuinness and Dave Kelly and has appeared with and/or recorded with Peter Green, Maggie Bell, Van Morrison and John Mayall amongst many others.
In his own right, Gary performs a compelling mix of originals and classic covers straddling folk, Americana and blues. He plays guitar, slide, banjo, mandolin and ukulele with consummate ease and he has appeared in solo, duo, trio or band guises on the folk and roots festival circuit, including Cromer Folk Festival, New Forest Folk Festival, Great British Folk Festival Skegness, and at folk and acoustic music clubs up and down the country. Bob Harris has featured Gary live in the studio on his BBC R2 show several times and had him play sessions for his YouTube channel ‘Under the Apple Tree’.
The full six piece line up OF Gary’s band showcases the exceptional talents of Tom Leary (Feast of Fiddles, Lindisfarne, Tanna) on violin and mandolin, Alan Glen (Yardbirds, Nine Below Zero) on harmonica, Andy Billups (The Hamsters) on bass, Nick Ritchie (Bonnie Tyler ,Mud) on lead guitar and Sam Kelly (Tom Robinson, Dave Kelly Band) on drums.
The evening at St Edith Folk will consist of an opening set by the acoustic trio of Fletcher, Leary and Glen, followed by an extended set with the full band to give us a taste of the full gamut of Gary and his friend’s flair and musical aptitude in operation. It will be a very exciting evening indeed!
