Event Description
Leeds Castle is embarking on a new adventure which will involve thematic displays and introduce you to one of the most sophisticated, yet enigmatic female owners of the Castle, as we return to the glamorous 1930s.
Anglo-American heiress, Lady Olive Baillie transformed the Castle into one of the most desirable country houses of the 20th century. From April 2022, glide into the exotic 1930s house party of Lady Baillie, as her guests and staff prepare for the weekend ahead, where music, dancing and dangerous liaisons were the order of the day. Revel in the gossip and cocktails, high stakes gambling, and the sparkling mix of Hollywood stars, society’s finest and leading politicians all of whom partied within the Castle’s walls.
Guests will also be introduced to Lady Baillie’s collaborators and top French designers, Armand-Albert Rateau to Stéphane Boudin - where you’ll admire original 1930s interiors and design. Join her quest as she seeks to acquire the finest collection of objects from some of the most famous Auction Houses, as well as experience all the hedonistic glamour of a 1930s ‘salon’.
Amidst this fun and frolics, guests will meet some of the house staff, all of whom contributed to the life and soul of the Castle. Be prepared to listen into their gossip as they go about their daily business, under the watchful eye of their elusive mistress.
