Event Description

This programme of Wellbeing Walks will help you to reduce muscle tension, raise the heart rate and increase free-flowing energy with breath awareness exercises and gentle, energising stretches before and during these outdoor walks.

They help relax the body and mind, enhancing your connection to the outdoor environment. We will be walking on even ground for approximately one hour, with a breather halfway through.

Meeting places and walking locations will vary from week to week. All locations are in and around Christchurch, and are accessible by car or public transport. These walks are aimed at women who want to increase their physical activity and improve their overall health.

Walks take place every first and third Tuesday of the month. Walks will vary so please check the meeting point and travel information beforehand.

Walks cost £6 and advanced booking is recommended. Subsidised places are available on referral. Speak to your health or social care professional if you would like them to refer you.

The walks should take about an hour and 15 minutes, however, please allow for an hour and 30 minutes.

We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes, such as light walking boots or trainers. Please dress appropriately for the weather, as walks will go ahead in light rain and cold weather, however the walks will be cancelled for heavy rain and strong winds. The decision to cancel a walk due to adverse weather will be made before 5pm on the Monday before. You will receive an email confirming it has been cancelled and receive a refund in full.

Walks are lead by Julie Hands. Julie is qualified with the British Wheel of Yoga and teaching since 2003, she has since spent time studying the principles of Tibetan Yoga and works to incorporate the philosophy of Kum Nye Tibetan Healing Movement into the practice. Julie has focused her yoga sharing on breath awareness and using it as a tool for improved well-being, relaxation and calming of the nervous system – often working on a one-to-one basis with people suffering with stress and its associated symptoms.

This programme is supported by funding from Sports England through their This Girl Can campaign
