Kick Off Christmas in Tunbridge Wells on November 14th with Festive Fun and Silent Fireworks!
Every year, Royal Tunbridge Wells transforms into a dazzling winter wonderland, drawing locals and visitors alike to soak up the holiday cheer. This year, the town is taking the festivities up a notch with an exciting Christmas Kick-Off event on November 14th—filled with enchanting performances, a festive parade, and a silent fireworks display designed to be gentle on pets and the community.
Event Highlights:
Rock Choir Performance
Starting at 4:30 PM, the event will kick off with a spirited performance by a rock choir outside the iconic Opera House. This lively opening act sets the tone for an evening full of holiday magic.
Animation Projection on the Opera House
At 5 PM, witness the unveiling of a spectacular new animated projection display on the Opera House facade. Sponsored by Maxipay, this three-minute video captures the festive essence of Tunbridge Wells, projecting scenes of holiday cheer right onto this historic building.
Festive Santa Sleigh Parade
Following the projection, Santa himself will lead a festive parade through town, complete with “snow” streaming from his sleigh. Accompanied by characters from this year’s pantomimes—Aladdin at the Assembly Hall and Sleeping Beauty at Trinity Theatre—the parade will move down Mount Pleasant to the High Street, filling the air with holiday music. Expect a lively sing-along of 12 classic Christmas songs, and join in using lyrics from a digital guide available on the new RTW Love Local app.
Chocolate Coins, Raffle Tickets, and Bauble Bingo
Elves will be handing out chocolate coins and raffle tickets to the most enthusiastic singers, courtesy of CooperBurnett! Once the parade reaches the High Street around 6 PM, join comedian Kitty Cassis for a round of Bauble Bingo in collaboration with West Kent Radio. With 25 fabulous prizes from local shops and a grand prize of a brand-new iPad, be sure to hold onto your raffle ticket for a chance to win!
Silent Fireworks Finale
At 7 PM, gather for the highlight of the night: an eight-minute silent fireworks display from the roof of Christ Church. Visible from the High Street and beyond, this stunning light show—kindly sponsored by Demelza Children’s Charity—provides all the magic of fireworks without the loud noise, making it ideal for pet owners and local residents.
